Quick Start

Click the Launch Bot tab.
Answer as many of the pre-set questions that you want answer short-cuts for.
Click the Start Bot button.
Type /help for a reminder of the answer short-cuts available.

FAQs is a simple chat aid, that helps you respond to frequently asked questions using shortcuts for answers you pre-configure.
As a bonus, you also have the option, while it's working, of blocking common forms of chat spam.

Settings:

You pre-configure your answers to a series of common questions on the Launch Bot page.


If you don't want to give answers to any of the questions, leave their response boxes empty.
DON'T include any information you want kept confidential, because anyone can type /help into chat and see a list of your answers.
And DON'T give yes or no answers, because they won't make sense without the question. FAQs doesn't display the questions. So give answers that make sense when read alone.

Using Answer Shortcuts in Chat:

Once you have started the bot, you can insert one of your pre-configured responses into chat by using its /shortcut. So if someone asks whether you have any "toys" you might reply Yes, donjon, /toys :smile which, using the example settings, would appear in chat as
Alternatively, you could simply type in the shortcut's short-form, /ts, consisting of the first and last letters of the shortcut, which the bot transforms into
Not all shortcuts have short-forms. To find out which do and for a reminder of all the responses you have configured, and their shortcuts, use

Please Note: Just as with Chaturbate :emoticons, FAQs /shorcuts and /short-forms must have a preceding space character (unless they start a message), and be followed by one (unless they're at the end.) If you don't include the space characters or use a shortcut for a response you haven't configured an answer for, it just appears as the untransformed shortcut in chat, like when you use an :emoticon that Chaturbate doesn't recognize.

If a command, shortcut or short-form clashes with another app/bot command, pre-pend it with either faqs or qa, for example /qahelp.

Additional Settings: Blocking Common Spam

FAQs contains a basic version of the spam detecting engine used in both of my anti-chat-spam bots, No Grey Spammers and SpHammer, which, if enabled, will block many common forms of chat spam from appearing in your chat while the bot is running.

Using the in-chat command to disable spam blocking, also displays any recently blocked spam messages. So it can be used to check for spam activity, as long as you remember to re-enable it, if you want it to keep blocking spam ;)

Additional Settings: Multi-line Safe Mode:

It can sometimes happen that multi-line notices are blocked by the system. The /help command produces a multi-line notice. So if you use it and get no response, re-launch the bot, enabling Safe Mode, to convert all multi-line notices into their single-line equivalents. Unfortunately, in Safe Mode, notice lines aren't guaranteed to be displayed in the intended order, which can lead to confusion, which is why it is better to run the bot with Safe Mode disabled, if possible.

Why FAQs and not just FAQ?:

In this instance, FAQs stands for "Frequently Asked Question shortcuts", not the pluralisation of FAQ, "Frequently Asked Questions".

Notes.

  1. Leading and trailing space is trimmed from your answer responses.

  2. Any valid Chaturbate emoticon shortcut may be used in a response, and the classic short forms of both wink and smile are converted into their corresponding Chaturbate equivalents.

  3. It is also possible to use characters from the extended unicode character set, by including unicode escape sequences of the form \uXXXX, where XXXX is the hexadecimal code of the unicode character you want to appear. For example, \u2665 produces A full list of unicode hexadecimal codes can be found here.

  4. If using this bot in combination with either of my anti-chat-spam bots, No Grey Spammers or SpHammer, it is recommended to load the anti-chat-spam bot in a higher value bot slot than FAQs (for example, load FAQs into bot slot #1, and No Grey Spammers into bot slot #2.) In that way, FAQs can take into account the presence of whichever anti-chat-spam bot you choose to use.

  5. Although it is possible to run more than one copy of FAQs at a time, with different responses set for each shortcut, there is no point because once one copy has transformed a shortcut into its response, no other copy will get a chance to transform it further.
